The wattle, or acacia is the floral emblem of Australia and September 1, the first day of our Spring is National Wattle Day. If you drive around the wheatbelt Shire of Dalwallinu during their wattle week celebrations, the yellowness of the wattles just hits you and it's that feeling that I've tried to portray.

Landscape Being Born, mixed media/collage painting by Chris Marshall
Inspired by the huge tides and erosion of soft rock we've seen in the Kimberley. These different rocks show you glimpses into other time periods like the black volcanic rocks covered at high tide with the tangle of mangroves over them (from the lush forests of the age of the dinosaurs). I'm always fascinated by evidence of what I call "landscapes being born"

Light on the Mudflats, Mixed Media / Collage Painting by Chris Marshall, Perth
This started off as a quick sketch when we stopped and went for a walk in Carnarvon in the Gascoyne one day. There was some really interesting light on the mudflats. With the lowish angle light, the tide out and the ripples in the sand, the mudflats appeared quite 3D-ish, almost like large cobble stones. Years later I turned it into this artwork.
